Visa Requirements and Process – I have visited the UAE three times now. The first two times, I applied through a travel agent for PKR 11,000 (in 2017) and PKR 17,000 (in 2022). The process was straightforward, requiring basic documents as requested by the agent, and the processing time was 3 working days.
The third time, in April 2024, I applied through the Etihad Airways website and obtained my visa within 4 hours. It’s worth noting that this was a transit visa for USD 47, but they also offer options for long stays if you fly with them.
Each time, I traveled solo!
Traveling to UAE – I have flown through the UAE the most, resulting in me trying almost all airlines, i.e., Emirates, Etihad, Air Arabia, and Fly Dubai – you name it! I personally find Etihad to be the most comfortable option. Fly Dubai is a good choice if you really want to save some money. I do not recommend Emirates unless you are flying business because 90 out of 100 flights from Karachi to Dubai are operated by Fly Dubai (as it’s a cheaper subsidiary of Emirates), which is not great.
Customs and Immigration – Customs and immigration at both Dubai Airport and Abu Dhabi Airport were super simple and easy!
“Coffee Museum, Dubai”
Food – It’s no secret that the UAE is the ultimate foodie playground, offering a smorgasbord of extravagant options from all corners of the globe, you can find every damn cuisine – literally!! What tickled my taste buds the most was the traditional Emirati food specially Lamb Ouzi, Zataar Breads, Luqaimat, Machboos, and Obviously Knafeh (Bonus recommendation: try Qwaider Al Nabulsi)
Transactions – Card works super fine, however super vendors and shop deal in Cash, Still!
Intercity Travel – Among the 7 cities, Dubai is the one with modern metro system and extensive bus network, making exploration a cinch. Abu Dhabi, Ajman and Sharjah are next with extensive bus network. rest can be best explored via car!

UAE is a melting pot of culture however most popular languages are English, Arabic and Urdu/Hindi. Quite a lot of people speak English but you will be surprise to find a south asian who can speak Urdu/Hindi at every corner of the country! Just in case you need here are some basic Arabic words:
You literally don’t need anything but a decent English to go by this country!

Not so Popular Opinion – I prefer Abu Dhabi over Dubai (there, I said it!!)
Some Offbeat Experiences – UAE has much more to offer than those Instagram worthy restaurants and parks! Try coffee museum, heritage hub, ride a dhow, my best place in UAE is Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi
Pro tip for architects – Explore Saadiyat Island, its an architect’s paradise!
