Hey, Hey Fellow Architect and Travelers!

Ever wanted to know what goes into making some of the world’s best coffee? Come along with me as I take you on a super cool coffee plantation tour in Bali. Trust me, this is one experience you don’t want to miss.

So, first things first—Bali is the perfect place for coffee. Thanks to its fertile volcanic soil and tropical climate, it’s like a paradise for coffee plants. And among all the coffee grown here, the most famous one is the Luwak coffee, also known as civet coffee. Yep, it’s that coffee you’ve probably heard about!

Let’s dive into the details…

Walking through the plantation is a treat for the senses. Imagine rows and rows of lush coffee plants, with spices like vanilla and cinnamon growing alongside them. The air is filled with the amazing aroma of coffee cherries and spices. It’s like stepping into another world.

As we stroll through, you’ll see how carefully everything is maintained. The workers here use traditional farming methods that have been passed down through generations. It’s pretty amazing to see how much care goes into growing these plants.

The Unique Luwak Coffee Process

One of the coolest parts of the tour is learning how they harvest and dry the coffee beans. The workers handpick only the ripest coffee cherries, ensuring the best quality. These cherries are then laid out to dry under the tropical sun. It’s a lot of hard work, but it really pays off in the end.

Now, let’s get to the highlight—Luwak coffee. This coffee is super unique because it goes through a special process. Here’s how it works: a civet, which is a small mammal, eats the ripe coffee cherries. The beans pass through the civet’s digestive system and get naturally fermented. After the beans are, well, excreted, they are collected, cleaned really well, and then roasted.

I know, it sounds a bit strange, but this process gives Luwak coffee its distinctive flavor. Fun fact: beans from male civets are said to have a stronger taste than those from female civets. The natural fermentation process inside the civet’s digestive system breaks down proteins that cause bitterness, resulting in a smoother, less acidic coffee.
